NCAA Hits Northridge’s Fick With One-Game Suspension

Catcher Robert Fick, the leading hitter for Cal State Northridge, has been suspended by the NCAA for today’s nonconference baseball game against Long Beach State for allegedly making contact with an umpire Sunday in a Western Athletic Conference game at Hawaii.
Fick, Northridge Coach Mike Batesole, shortstop Adam Kennedy and pitcher Andrew Settle were ejected during the Matadors’ 11-9 loss to the Rainbows in the finale of a five-game series.
Boxing
The professional boxing show scheduled for tonight at the Warner Center Marriott has been canceled. Promoter Gerrie Coetzee said he needed time to reorganize after signing a cable television deal. Coetzee said the next scheduled event at the Marriott, on May 22, will feature Penta Continental middleweight and welterweight championship bouts.
Basketball
Damon Ollie of Santa Monica College has signed a letter of intent with Montana State. Ollie, from North Hollywood High, was the state junior college co-player of the year last season.
