Allergan Inc.: The Irvine health-care company posted a 6% gain in net income for the first quarter as sales went up 13%. Net income rose to $23.1 million, or 35 cents a share, from $21.7 million, or 34 cents a share, for the 1995 first quarter. Sales totaled $258.1 million, up from $228.3 million.
The company said results were affected by two factors--a decline in cataract surgeries in some parts of the country because of inclement weather, and a voluntary recall of certain intraocular lenses.
