Bergen Brunswig Deal

ORANGE — Bergen Brunswig Corp. said Tuesday that the pharmaceutical company has been selected as the sole supplier for Ahold USA, one of nation’s largest food retailers.

Ahold, a subsidiary of Netherlands-based Royal Ahold, operates more than 650 food stores in the United States under the names Bi-Lo, Edwards, Finast, Giant Food Stores, and Tops. About a third of the stores have full-service pharmacies.

Royal Ahold announced recently that it plans to acquire Stop & Shop Companies, Inc., which operates over 265 supermarkets, superstores, and convenience stores in the New England market.

Last year, Bergen received was awarded a five-year supplier contract with grocery retailer Safeway grocery retailer, and was selected as the prime vendor for the Fred W. Albrecht and Stop and Shop companies.
