Survey to Ask About Year-Round School

The Moorpark school district plans to survey parents to see whether there is interest in having a year-round school schedule.
There is already a plan to establish a pilot year-round program during the 1997-1998 school year at the district’s continuation school.
So far, there has not been much interest among parents for the idea, and principals at the district’s nine schools have come out against the option, said Assistant Supt. Frank DePasquale.
Because students would have staggered school schedules, year-round schools often allow districts to effectively expand their classrooms. With all of Moorpark’s schools at or near capacity, the district is seeking ways to find space for its growing student population.
School board member David Pollock said he has been supporting the pilot program because it was listed as an option to better use school resources in a 3-year-old report by the Committee for Effective Schools.
