Daka, Kmart Cancel Food Service Pact: The companies canceled their plans for Daka to operate 1,850 restaurants in Kmart’s discount stores. Danvers, Mass.-based Daka International Inc. said it would instead concentrate on improving its operations, which include the Fuddruckers Inc. hamburger chain, a food service division called Daka Inc. and Champps Entertainment Inc. restaurants. Kmart said that although it is unfortunate that the joint venture didn’t go through, the Troy, Mich.-based retailer learned much and is better prepared to boost restaurant profit. Daka and Kmart signed a letter of intent in July.
