Bright Jupiter is half a degree above the great globular star cluster M22 in Sagittarius, and the two are a pretty signt in a small telescope. M22 is one of the closest and brightest star clusters. It takes a beam of light 40 minutes to reach the Earth from Jupiter but 10,000 years to travel from M22. They are in the south and a third of the way up the sky at 8 p.m. At the same time, check out Jupiter’s major moons, shown here, from left, Ganymede, Europa, Io and Callisto.
