Food Bank Steps Up Collection Efforts

About 22,000 pounds shy of making its goal to collect 60,000 pounds of food for the holidays, FOOD Share Inc. is joining with grocery stores and banks across Ventura County this week to drum up donations.
For the final push, businesses throughout the county have put out collection barrels for the regional food bank, which collects food for 183 agencies in Ventura County. The agencies range from the Salvation Army and Catholic Charities to small food pantries and churches and serve about 31,000 people.
The drive started Nov. 1 and ends Dec. 15 to allow time to sort the items and get them distributed in time for Christmas, said FOOD Share’s resources developer, Anthoula Randopoulos.
Those interested in donating food can find barrels in the 18 Vons supermarkets in the county and at Ventura National County Bank and other businesses.
