Mining Company Battles Restrictions

A Moorpark gravel mining company today will ask the Board of Supervisors to overturn the county Planning Commission’s recent decision to curb its expansion plans.
In September, the commission approved Transit Mixed Concrete Co.’s proposal to mine another 42 acres at its facility north of Broadway and Walnut Canyon Road.
Bowing to residents’ complaints, however, the commission limited the number of truck trips to and from the site to a maximum of 590 per day, less than half the average of 1,328 trips the company proposed.
The commission also denied Transit’s request to build an asphalt plant and limited the company’s mining permit to 20 years, rather than the 50-year permit requested. The company is asking the board to grant its new mining permit without the imposed restrictions.
