Business and community members will say farewell today to John O. Tynes, an 18-year veteran of the City Council who lost his bid for reelection in November.
Tynes, 79, who has served on the council intermittently since 1950, had advocated programs to keep youngsters out of trouble, put more police on the streets and attract businesses to the city.
A resident since 1944, Tynes also has served the city as teacher, coach, school district administrator, mayor and city administrator.
A party honoring his 46 years of service to the community will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Backs Community Building, 201 N. Bradford Ave.
Information: (714) 993-8117.
