Seedings: Aliso Niguel is the top-seeded team in the Division VIII playoffs; Pacifica is unseeded.
Noteworthy: Pacifica, which entered the playoffs as an at-large team after finishing fourth in the Garden Grove League, has momentum and maybe destiny on its side. If Lakewood Mayfair didn’t have a bad snap on a punt in the quarterfinals, Pacifica’s Nathan Kolano wouldn’t have had the chance to kick a last-second, game-winning field goal. Pacifica’s running game has come alive in the playoffs to complement J.D. Stern’s passing (2,274 yards, 18 touchdowns). But Pacifica has not faced an opponent as big and strong as Aliso Niguel, which has outscored its playoff opponents, 92-16. Scott Nemeth has rushed for 1,307 yards and quarterback Wes Thomas has thrown for 1,162 yards and 12 touchdowns in 11 games.
