Goalies Take Charge in Third Period
The Kings have been outscored in every period this season except the third, and a big reason has been the play of goalies Byron Dafoe and Stephane Fiset.
In the last 10 games, Dafoe and Fiset have faced 103 third-period shots but given up only nine goals. For the season, the Kings have outscored opponents in the third period, 34-30.

Including last season, when he played in the American Hockey League, right wing Brad Smyth has scored 74 goals in his last 83 games.

The Kings are 8-10-4 against teams with losing records and 4-5 against winning teams. . . . Dimitri Khristich’s goal in the first period of Saturday’s 4-4 tie with Washington was a good sign for the slumping Kings. In the last six games in which he has scored a goal, the Kings are unbeaten. Khristich leads the team with 26 points.
