Entomologist Testifies in Westerfield Trial

A second defense entomologist testified Monday that the body of 7-year-old Danielle van Dam was probably dumped in a rural area several days after David Westerfield--on trial for her kidnap and murder--was being watched by police.
Neil Haskell, an entomologist from Indiana, said the size and number of insects on the body showed that it could not have been dumped before Feb. 12. By Feb. 5, Westerfield was being watched continuously by police.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Jeff Dusek sought to show that the unseasonably warm and dry weather could have influenced how insects attacked the body.
