Fireworks and hotel prices will shoot skyward for Fourth of July at Tahoe

A popular Fourth of July fireworks show will light up the night sky at South Lake Tahoe and will send hotel room prices skyrocketing.
“Lights on the Lake,” which claims to be the largest fireworks show in the Western U.S., will send ka-booms rumbling across the water starting at 9:45 p.m. July 4. The show, synchronized to pop and country music, will last 25 minutes.
There will be plenty of good viewing spots along area beaches and at the hotel-casinos in Stateline, Nev. The best view, though, may be from the water. Paddlewheelers Dixie II and Tahoe Queen will offer special fireworks excursions departing from Zephyr Cove, Nev.
The Tahoe South area will host several events during the holiday weekend, including the popular Rolling Chrome/Tahoe Thunder Car and Motorcycle Show from July 3-5. The result is premium prices for hotel rooms.
The Montbleu in Stateline has rooms for July 3 and 4 starting at $399 a night. Across the street at the lakefront Harvey’s Lake Tahoe, rooms start at $619 Friday night and $609 Saturday night.
Visitors willing to make the 75-minute drive to Reno can snag rooms at the Grand Sierra Resort for $138 a night.
